COGEDAR LINE
COGEDAR - Cia. Genovese d'Armamento - was an Italian line which earned a name for itself during the heady years of the migrant boom in the 50s and 60s. Operating a small fleet of re-built cargo and passenger ships, COGEDAR provided cheap, comfortable fares for people travelling all over the world - especially to Australia.
Please note: Many of my ship illustrations do not have a dedicate page but are available as prints on my store. For a dedicated list please visit the Prints section of the online shop.
M/S AURELIA - 1968
COGEDAR’s most famous ship, Aurelia was tiny by modern standards. Regardless, this plucky vessel had a massive career and she would be remembered fondly by the thousands she carried for new lives in Australia.
Aurelia was a beloved immigrant liner operated by the Italian COGEDAR line until 1970 when she was sold to Chandris. Renamed Romanza, she would have a long and successful career before finally succumbing to fire in the late 1990s.
